All-new 2013 Chevrolet Spin MPV to be Built in Indonesia

JAKARTA – General Motors next Indonesian hero will be called the Chevrolet Spin. The seven seat multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) will be built at GM’s Bekasi manufacturing facility in West Java from early 2013.
The announcement of the all-new model was made overnight by GM Chief Executive Officer Dan Akerson at the company’s Annual Meeting in Detroit.
It follows GM’s announcement in August last year that it will invest US$150 million in the reactivation of the 11 hectare Bekasi plant that will initially manufacture up to 40,000 vehicles per year and ultimately create more than 800 new jobs.
GM Southeast Asia President Martin Apfel said the Spin’s entry into Indonesia’s growing automobile market builds on the Chevrolet brand’s century-long heritage of building vehicles that exceed the needs and desires of its customers.
“Spin is a great-looking, efficient and functional small MPV, and the only vehicle in its class to offer a six-speed automatic transmission. Spin will be affordable to purchase and – just as important – affordable to own.”
The Chevrolet Spin will offer seating for five or seven, depending on configuration. It delivers flexibility, car-like handling, cargo-carrying capability and great fuel economy with the look of an SUV, thanks to its muscular exterior and wide stance. Inside, the Spin cabin illustrates Chevrolet’s commitment to provide more-than-expected value with details and levels of execution usually associated with more expensive vehicles.
Apfel added, “Indonesia is excited to be one of the first markets in the world to introduce the all-new Spin,” Apfel said. “This will be a vehicle built for the people of Indonesia, by the people of Indonesia. It will be a vehicle of which Indonesia can be proud.”
